Walmart Hosts Contest to Encourage Inventors

Voting begins today for “Get on the Shelf,” Walmart’s online contest for those interested in getting their inventions on the retailer’s shelves.  Three winners will have their products sold on Walmart.com, plus the grand winner’s product also will get shelf space in select Walmart stores across the country.

Walmart’s nationwide contest, modeled after the American Idol television show, invited contestants to create videos of their latest inventions.  Among the entries:  a toothbrush training toy,  hot sauce, cube game, saline spray, hair accessory, iPad pillow and paw puffs for dogs.

The first round of voting will take place March 7th through April 4th, when the top 10 finalists will be announced. The second round of voting will take place April 11th – April 24th, at which point the top three contestants and grand prize winner will be announced.

This is the first year for “Get on the Shelf,” which generated 3,000 entries (out of which 1,300 qualified for the contest).  The February 22nd deadline for submissions has come and gone, but hopefully the contest will be repeated next year.  So if you’re an inventor with big dreams for your product, start planning for 2013!   You also can vote for your favorite video entry here.

I have entered a contest at the web site listed above! My product is listed as: “Attractive Lazy-Susan Organizer” Please view my product’s description and detailed drawings! I never thought I would have a product idea to pursue! My lawyer did a product search and filed for a patent with the USPTO office! If anyone has any suggestions on what I’m to do next, please contact me! Thank You!!
